Hodgkinson Wraps Up Campaign with Victorious Performance at Athlos Meet in NYC
Hodgkinson recorded her fastest time of 1:54.61 the previous season in London.
Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in NYC on Friday night.
{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who earned bronze at the World Championships last month, excelled in an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season impacted by a hamstring injury.
Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.
"I haven't competed much this year so it was likely less of a struggle for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.
"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive event filled the stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was present to present the winners with their crowns.
Previous champions received $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.
The competition also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon won the mile, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.
American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the sprint double.
